An Oscar for Peace

August 6, 2009  |  Blog

I’m up late because I can’t sleep tonight.

I’m very sad about my friend dying.

It’s been a funny 12 months for me. It feels like I’ve been through some kind of spiritual obstacle course – and my journey to The Big Peace has required me to face all my demons – divorce, drunkeness, and now death, a real barrel of laughs all round. Thank God for Oscar, my dog, who is currently curled up by my feet. He’s like Dorothy’s Toto, my little mascot, who has been with me through so many dark nights of the soul this year.

How to find the Big Peace? Get yourself an Oscar, I say.

even more gorgeous oscar

  1. Suzy so sorry to hear of your sad loss, and that you have had such a tough year.

I too have an Oscar – Marmie cat. He appeared one very hot evening at my bedroom window on the third floor of our little terraced house in London, and was there boldy lying on my sofa in the morning, where he took up residence, and never left..! I called him Lady Marmalade for some months until I discovered he was a boy when I took him to the vets..I tried to trace his owner but to no avail, and I even tried to give him away when we moved to a flat..(which I feel awful about now). somehow he found me and always came back!! he was even a weekender for a few years sharing his time between London and Gloucestershire, cooped up indoors in the week, but always patiently waiting by the door on sunday evening in the country, ready to get back in the car and come home with me…
I like to think he was sent to comfort me through some hard times, of which there were a few. He is scraggy, ginger and with some missing teeth, but I love him dearly and the thing I want to tell you today is that he is still here with me through the happier times too…

I’m glad you have Oscar.. thinking of you Kate xxxx

ps I love the new website

  2. Hello Suzy, I am very sorry to hear about your friend’s death. Life can be so unfair at times. I would like you to know that I have really enjoyed receiving your emails over the last 12 months and they have helped me a great deal with my life. I read Martha Stewarts book ‘Steering by starlight’ when in Kenya last Summer, after quite a traumatic split from ex-partner and I found it incredibly enlightening. I am so pleased that you have Oscar. Dogs give totally unconditional love as I’m sure you know. I have a labrador and a jack russell who are my companions in life. Thank you for all the tremendous work you do for so many people.

  3. Thank you for your lovely supportive email.
our dogs keep us together don’t they?
I know oscar does. If only he didn’t smell so much. xxx

  5. look forward to seeing you at the launch, Jenny.
sorry to hear about your ‘agony’ but sometimes I think by avoiding pain we create more agony. the only way out is through, as they say.
can’t wait to see you. xxx
