I’m incredibly lucky. I get to spend my days with the Big Leap Tribe, who are a pretty funny, interesting and inspirational crowd.
I’d like to share this interview with the wonderful Helenmary Stark, Big Leaper extraordinaire, who literally stared death in the face but instead of crumpling into a heap weeping, she started her own business! (like you do!)
If you wish to be inspired, do listen!

I worked with Charlie Haynes over three years ago and I’m delighted today to share an interview with how she started and had built her fantastic business Urban Writing Retreats.
Charlie was a frustrated writer living in New York, came back to the Uk to find that there was no kind of support for struggling or procrastinating writers – in the city. So prompty set up her own monthly one day urban writing retreats.
Again, here’s the inspirational story of how and why she started her own business on a shoestring – with top tips on how you can too.
HERE’S THE INTERVIEW:

Last week, I got to interview to the lovely Jorgen Sundberg, social media genius and founder of Link Humans. (I was kindly introduced to Jorgen via Marianne Cantwell of Free Range Humans Fame and John Williams, author of bestselling Screw Work, Let’s Play. )
Many of my Big Leaping clients are starting their own businesses and portfolio careers. With my journalistic career, I’ve been able to mentor and help people to get into the tradional press but I’m very much a beginner with ‘social media’.
(Althought I’ve been working with the lovely Antonia Chitty over the past few months. Please note she has just launched a scholarship programme which is a fantastic opportunity for those without a lot of cash and need support)
However, I’m always keen to know more so that’s why I was delighted to talk to Jorgen who has recently been hanging out with my hero Leo Babauta of Zenhabits.net and is working with Tony Blair’s personal branding consultant Malcolm Levene.
In this interview Jorgen talks me through the basics of social media but also talks about why it’s so important to be a creator versus consumer in the social media world plus why creating a unique, and sometimes controversial ‘voice’ can get you lots of attention in a virtual world.
I hope you enjoy the interview.

P.S Don’t forget The Big Leap Challenge starts on July 1st. If you want to create big changes at a sprint pace, do join us.
I wrote an article in the Daily Mail yesterday about how contemplating my own demise has made me live a better life.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1392125/Would-test-know-youll-die.html
The article was inspired by my lovely Big Leapers Polly Noble, Pam Evans and
Nicholas Hull-Malham – who have all written a book The Cancer Journey together.
Their book is out soon, forward written by opera singer Kathryn Jenkins. Will keep you posted.

John Purkiss is a head hunter, speaker and co-author of Brand You: Turn Your Unique Talents into a Winning Formula.
